Good afternoon,

We are a group of Moldovans living abroad and we are called the "Social Diaspora", a project created at the first forum "Adoptă un Vot", held in Venice in March 2017. The main goal of this group is to help vulnerable groups in the Republic of Moldova to improve their lives. We do everything on our own or in cooperation with other organizations. During the period of Cervical Cancer Prevention Week and International Women's Day, we plan together with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), to facilitate the access of women and girls with disabilities to family doctors and gynecologists, and help them take better care of heir reproductive health. We intend to purchase gynecological chairs adapted to their needs, to perform a cervical screening test (Papanicolaou) to prevent cervical cancer, as well as for other necessary researches. About 187,000 people with disabilities reside in the Republic of Moldova, half of them are women and girls. Most of them became disabled throughout life. One of the main reasons why women with disabilities do not go to the gynecologist and cannot take care of their health, including during pregnancy is the lack of gynecological chairs adapted to their needs in a number of medical institutions in the country. The lack of gynecological chairs that could be used by women with disabilities also limits the possibility of examining cervical cancer, a disease that affects one woman every day and from which every three days, one woman dies.

Of the 62 medical centers in the country, where there are units of reproductive health, only 17 have such chairs, while in centers for gynecological examinations, the situation is even worse. The average price of a gynecological examination chair is 1700 €. Our goal is to raise the necessary money for the initial acquisition of 5 pieces, which will be distributed through UNFPA to the Centers with the highest number of disabled women registered to date. Equipping medical institutions with adapted gynecological chairs will offer girls and women with disabilities the opportunity to take care of their sexual and reproductive health and live a decent life. Any donation can make a difference. And each of us can contribute to solving this problem!
