Ms. Lidia Rogoja is waging an unspoken, dignified battle!

There are people who dedicate their lives to helping and comforting others, never asking for anything in return. Yet, when the time comes for them to receive support, they do so with a humility that is truly heartbreaking!

Ms. Lidia Rogoja, who is 51 years old, is one of these individuals. She devoted her entire career to working as a nurse and social worker, spending her days helping the lonely, the sick, and the helpless.

For her whole life, she was a rock for everyone else, but since 2020, her own life has dramatically changed.

A rare genetic illness—Emery-Dreifuss Muscular Dystrophy and Nonaka Myopathy—has gradually started to destroy her muscles. After the severe strain of the pandemic, her condition worsened significantly. Ms. Lidia understands the disease perfectly and knows that the currently available symptomatic treatment cannot save her. Still, she refuses to give up. Every day she goes to work, continuing to help others, even though she can barely stand at times. It is a profound irony: the person who spent her life offering support is now the one who desperately needs help!

Genetic tests conducted in 2023 confirmed the grave diagnosis. Her only chance to stop the illness from progressing is stem cell therapy at a clinic in Turkey. A doctor there is prepared to accept her case, but the costs vastly exceed her financial capacity.

Ms. Lidia dreams of seeing her children settled in their own homes, enjoying her grandchildren, living life, and simply experiencing days without pain.
