My name is Olga Fedorcea. I am 17 years old. I live in the Republic of Moldova, in the Criuleni district, in the village of Baltata.
I am disabled and my diagnosis is Kugelberg-Welander spinal amyotrophy with myopathic locomotor disorders.
I would like to tell you the story of my life. When I was four, the doctors gave me the diagnosis of the disease mentioned above. I could walk but with difficulty. Every year my health deteriorated. 6 years ago my legs completely refused and since then I am in a wheelchair. All these years my health only worsened.
Afterwards I became ill with fourth degree scoliosis. Since the spine is curved, it presses the internal organs and the heart, it is very difficult for me to breathe, especially at night.
I constantly live in pain!!!!
In our country there are no rehabilitation centers for people with this diagnosis.
But this summer I had a happy opportunity to be chosen to go to the International Youth Camp for Disabled People in Italy. There, I met young people diagnosed with spinal amyotrophy who regularly underwent treatment at a private clinic in Bologna, Italy, with Dr. Marcello Villanova. This doctor specializes in the installation of a special mechanism in the spine.
After returning to Moldova, we contacted this doctor and made an appointment for consultations and treatment on October 16, 2017. The flight tickets were purchased only in one direction, since we don’t know at the moment how long will we stay.
We'll go three people - me, my mother and the translator.
A doctor's consultation costs 130 euros.
We will live in a hotel near the hospital.
We will need the following expenses:
1. Doctor consultation - 130 euros.
2. Tickets for the road - about 600 euros.
3. Stay in the hotel - 25 euro/per night x about 10 days = 250 euro.
The total cost is 1000 euros.
