It’s been five months since a terrible tragedy turned my brother Radu Jugaru’s life upside down. Everything changed in mid-February 2025, when Radu fell from a height. As if that wasn’t enough, we were devastated to learn that he had been working illegally, without a contract, for a company that turned out to be fake — nothing more than a name on paper.

In critical condition, he was taken to Agaplesion Diakonieklinikum hospital in Rotenburg, Germany, where he spent a full month in a coma in intensive care. He underwent three extremely difficult surgeries. Each time, the doctors warned us he might not survive — but by God’s grace, he did.

A month later, Radu was transferred to BG Klinikum in Hamburg, where he had two more surgeries. The last one was a turning point. Thankfully, it went well, and his condition stabilized — but the damage from his injuries left lasting consequences.

We cherished every small sign of progress — every word he managed to say, every movement he made, even with help. But then he suffered a severe epileptic seizure, which landed him back in intensive care. He’s now on anti-epileptic medication, but the doctors say more seizures are likely.

Right now, Radu urgently requires surgery on his left eye. The optic nerve was damaged during the head trauma, and he has lost all vision in that eye. But what frightens us most is the infection. The wound is difficult to care for, and it’s only been three weeks since his cranial implant — this could put his life at risk.

Today, Radu faces a long and difficult road to recovery.
