A message from Maria:

Greetings, I’m Maria. I’m a mother who just wants to live. I lost my mother and grandmother to ovarian cancer, so I’ve lived with the constant fear that I’d eventually face the same battle. Doctors had warned me about the risks and advised me to have a child as soon as I could, so I would then be able to have preventive surgery.

I did have my son, but the illness didn't wait. Seven months into my pregnancy, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After my son was born, I immediately started fighting for my life—eight rounds of chemo and a mastectomy. For three years, I felt like I had finally won. I was making plans, watching my little boy grow up, and just enjoying our life together.

But now, the cancer is back. At 35, I’m fighting it again, this time in my left breast. It’s an aggressive form, and my biggest fear isn't for myself—it’s for my three-year-old son. I know what it’s like to grow up without a mother, and I am terrified that he will have to go through the same thing.

The cost of this new treatment is more than our family can handle, so I am humbly reaching out for your help. I just want the chance to see my son grow up, to be there for the big moments, and to hear him call me "Mom" every single day. I truly believe that with your help and my resolve to keep fighting, I can beat this again.
