The life of Maxim Gavrilenco changed radically when he was five years old. He entered into a garage and accidentally drank a chemical that caused esophageal burns. Unfortunately, the boy's mother said that she could not continue the treatment due to the poor financial situation. Recently, Maxim was brought to the Center of mother and child in Chisinau for esophagus treatment, but after an unsuccessful procedure, the boy now eats only through a tube attached directly to its stomach. At the age of 11, he weighs only 14 kg. Even if it is very difficult, Maxim never complains, he does not lose his optimism and, thus, supports his family. Maxim lives alone with his mother and two younger brothers as his father left them. Catalina is doing everything possible to help the boy, but a modest income (she receives social security benefits and that a total of two thousand lei) barely allows her to purchase the necessary minimum. They live in a single room, in unimaginable conditions and pay a monthly rent of 650 lei, while the rest of the money are spent for medicines and food. The boy requires a long lasting treatment and several medications, which either are very expensive or simply are not available in our country. Maxim's mother hopes that people of good will and give her a helping hand.

Maxim Gavrilenko is back home!

I will not write much and will give you the opportunity to enjoy these photos and video. Let me just say a little secret... everyone was crying – we were crying, as well as the operator, the reporter, Dumitru Beschieru and the boy’s mom – we all cried of happiness!

Maxim, after 6 years, can eat again! Miracles do exist! We are those who can work a miracle. From the heart.

In these moments Maxim Gavrilenco completed the surgery! All day we were thinking about this child. We know how difficult and risky is this surgery, which lasted 20 hours and which completely changed the life of this little boy. Soon, with the help of God and thanks to the skilful hands of Mrs. Pelin Oguzkurt (which is really an outstanding specialist), the boy will be able to eat like a normal child! Maxim is not the first child she made surgery on, and every time, regardless of the case, her surgeries were successful! We want sincerely to thank this woman who is capable of doing real miracles.
